Ophthalmologist Harvey J. Howard received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1908. His career included two long appointments in China - from 1910-15 he served as head of the Ophthalmology Department at the University Medical School, Canton Christian College, and from 1917-27 he served as head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Peking Union Medical College.
